Overview:

In this Spyglass instructional video, we will provide a brief overview of the major components of the ESP system.

The ESP components covered in this video are contained within three subsystems.

  • The ESP fluidics subsystem moves water samples through the system and combines extracts from filtered particles with analytical reagents.
  • The ESP mechanical subsystem moves the containers for conducting the tests (we call these containers “pucks” since they look like hockey pucks), and it pumps syringes and opens or shuts valves to perform analytical tests.  This subsystem includes a camera that captures the results of tests performed within a puck.
  • The ESP software & electronics subsystem controls the mechanical and fluidics subsystems, receives information from contextual sensors and communicates results to onboard data storage and to  an external database.

These systems work in concert to conduct autonomous testing in the water.
